Når Samuel Bollendorf publiserer prosjektene sine, er det både som fotobok og webdokumentar. Er han fremtidens fotograf?

Samuel Bollendorf ble født i 1974. Som fotograf er han kjent for å ha et humanistisk blikk, som ofte er rettet mot sykehus, skoler, politiet og fengsler. Med fotografiene sine ønsker han å stille spørsmål om enkeltmenneskets plass i offentlige institusjoner.

Nye muligheter
I år ledet Bollendorf juryen som delte ut historiens første pris til beste web-dokumentar under fotofestivalen i Perpignan.
- Målet vårt var å premiere en produksjon som best mulig illustrerer en ny måte å fortelle nyhetsreportasjer på nettet, sa Bollendorf, da han delte ut førsteprisen til vinnerteamet «The Incarcerated Body».

Fotografen, som er med i byrået Oeil Public tar i bruk alle plattformer når han publiserer egne reportasjer. Prosjektet «Forced March», en serie reportasjer om gruverarbeidere i Kina, har vært på trykk i en rekke magasiner, blitt bok, hengt som utstilling i Perpignan og vist som en avansert webdokumentar på nett. Gjennom alle disse kanalene har fotografen spredd budskapet sitt: fortellingen om menneskene som ikke er nevnt i Kinas økonomiske mirakelhistorie.
Når Bollendorf besøker Dok10 i februar, skal han blant annet fortelle om mulighetene han ser for fotografer i bruk av internet, og ikke minst produksjonen av sin egen «Journey to the end of coal»

When Samuel Bollendorf publishes his work, it is through both photo books and a multimedia shows. Is this representing the future of photography?

Samuel Bollendorf was born in 1974. He is known as a photographer with a humanistic eye, often focused on public institutions like hospitals, schools, police and prisons. In the photographs, he aims to ask questions about the role of the individuals in public institutions and use photography to create politic reflections.

New opportunities
Last year Bollendorf was head of the jury of the first best web documentary Award in Perpignan.
- Our goal was to honour a production that best illustrated a new way to show news reportages on the web, Bollendorf said when he handled out the first prize to the winner «The Incarcerated Body».

Bollendorf, who used to be a member of the now closed down agency Oeil Public, uses all platforms when presenting his own reportages. The project «Journey to the end of coal», a series of reports about mine workers in China, has been published in numerous magazines, he made a photo book, an exhibition in Perpignan and showed it as an advanced multimedia piece on the web. Through all those canals, he manages to spread his message: The destiny of a people not mentioned in the miraculous story of China’s economy boom.
